- ➤ First graders at DeLisle Elementary are hosting a bracket-style reading tournament inspired by March Madness, where special guest readers share a new story each day. Students will vote for their favorite books and crown a champion by the end of March. WXXV 25
- ➤ Gulf Coast Research Lab will upgrade its Marine Education Center with a living shoreline project using recycled oyster shells and natural materials to boost coastal education and protect habitats. Funded by the Tidelands Trust Fund and a Mississippi Legislature appropriation (Save Our Shells program), the project will begin soon. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Inner Space Center and National Marine Sanctuary Foundation released The Hidden Gulf (a new documentary) on YouTube this week; the film follows NOAA, DOI and partners as they work to restore deep coral habitats affected by the Deep-Water Horizon oil spill in 2010. WXXV 25

- ➤ Memorial Hospital Gulfport received level 1 stroke center designation from the Mississippi State Department of Health, making it one of only four in Mississippi and the only hospital south of Jackson (a boost for comprehensive, round-the-clock stroke care). WXXV 25

- ➤ During weekend conference openers, Mississippi State lost 5-4 on Friday before winning a doubleheader game against Arkansas, Southern Miss split its series with Arkansas State, and Ole Miss fell to Texas after a game that went into extras — all teams now prepare for upcoming midweek matchups.
