COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mississippi Power presented a $38,000 check to the Harrison County School District for switching to LED lighting in their baseball and softball fields, marking a first in their energy efficiency rebate program for sports lighting.  WXXV 25
  • The former Sun Herald building, which housed the publication for 50 years, will be demolished by new owner Rick Camarena, with future plans for the site undisclosed.  WXXV 25
  • Robert Richard, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, celebrated his 100th birthday with the Mississippi Seawolves and the Armed Forces Retirement Home.  WXXV 25
  • A free youth skate clinic for children 15 and under of all skill levels is being hosted by the Gulf Coast Skateparks Association in Biloxi on Saturday, with helmets required and parental supervision.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi State University began construction of the Northern Gulf Aquatic Food Research Center, a pioneering facility aimed at enhancing aquatic food safety and supporting the state's major seafood and catfish industries.  Gazebo Gazette

  • The Mississippi Aquarium will release 20 rehabilitated Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles named after Taylor Swift lyrics off Biloxi Beach.  WXXV 25

  • Memorial Health System is actively seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks to support patient families, requiring candidates to be at least 18 years old.  WXXV 25

  • The Hancock Whitney Classic featuring Mississippi State versus Old Dominion is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Keesler Federal Park, with highlights to be reported by WXXV Sports.  WXXV 25
