COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pass Christian Fire Department rescued an older man from a rollover near West North Street and Cedar Avenue on Oct. 10 using HURST hydraulic tools. Firefighters Jessie Peterson and David Easterling earned the Green Cross award at the Pass Christian Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 3.  Gazebo Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pass Christian (near the coast) will host the 15th annual Krewe of Blarney St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 14. The parade starts at Davis Avenue and Second Street, passes through downtown with stops at local businesses, and ends at Bacchus on the Beach with live music and an Irish feast.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last week, D’Iberville High School held its inaugural Spanish Honor Society induction to honor 28 students for excellence in Spanish and appreciation of Hispanic culture. Many family members and friends attended the event (highlighting strong community support).  WXXV 25
  • The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport is accepting summer internship applications to provide hands-on experience in marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation — applicants must apply by Sunday, Mar. 15.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Keesler Air Force Base patient decontamination team completed their biannual recertification last week by practicing the full process of safely handling simulated casualties before medical care. The training keeps the team qualified and ready to respond when needed.  WXXV 25

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local Harrison County libraries launched the 'Libraries with a Heart' program on Thursday morning to offer blood pressure kits for home monitoring and free in-library stations in partnership with the American Heart Association + aiming to improve heart health and prevent stroke.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Biloxi Shuckers are hosting tryouts for singers to perform the National Anthem before home games — entries must be submitted by April 30. Selected participants will be notified to perform before a game, and their photos or videos may be used for promotional material.  WXXV 25
  • Long Beach Bearcats beat the Tigers by a score of 12 to 2 on Friday, Mar. 6 with a 4 RBI effort by second baseman S.J. Valentine after a close loss on Tuesday plus the team is set to play at Purvis on Tuesday.  Gazebo Gazette
