- ➤ South Mississippi mayors urge residents to donate food for the March of the Mayors food drive that supports local pantries. Volunteers will pack donations at the Lyman Community Center on Friday + the drive ends tomorrow. WXXV 25

- ➤ Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi announced that Jeannine Johnston is the new Director of Mission Services & Fund Development. Johnston started at Goodwill in 2020 and served in Workforce Development roles, and she will lead retail, e-commerce and career programs across the region. Gazebo Gazette

- ➤ South Mississippians have seen gas prices spike at many Gulfport stations, with prices rising nearly 50 cents per gallon after international tensions pushed crude higher. Chevron in Pascagoula says it is monitoring any further changes & residents brace for steeper fuel costs. WXXV 25
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Patrick Catholic High students joined local conservation efforts by attaching oyster shells to an artificial reef in Biloxi as marine officials explained the project. The work supported coastal habitat restoration. WXXV 25

- ➤ Military One Coast announced its Annual Meeting Breakfast set for March 10 at the CTA Event Center in Gulfport (doors open at 7:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 8:00 a.m.). The event will include updates from base commanders and local military representatives. Gazebo Gazette

- ➤ Mississippi Legislature approved House Bill 565, which requires state-regulated health plans to cover cancer biomarker testing to help guide treatment choices. - ➤ Our Lady Academy lost to Belmont in a close Class 3A semifinals game on Wednesday night. The team ended the season 24-7 after being crowned 3A Region 8 tournament champions. WXXV 25
- ➤ The St. Stanislaus Rock-A-Chaws advanced to the state championship after beating Booneville 49-41 in the Class 3A semifinals on Wednesday night. They will face Quitman Saturday at 4 p.m. WXXV 25
- ➤ Student athlete Saniyah Murray, one of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2027, is set to play for Harrison Central in Friday’s state championship game in Gulfport, carrying 24 college offers as she aims for her team’s first title win since 2005. WXXV 25
- ➤ Mississippi Matrix U16 volleyball team clinched gold at the Sunshine Classic USAV National Qualifier in Orlando and earned a spot in this summer's National Championship Tournament with a perfect 10-0 record. The team won under head coach Jesse Rechtien + assistant coach Morgan Rechtien. WXXV 25
