  • The Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport has named Jeff Gibula interim CEO as outgoing CEO Kurt Allen will leave at the end of the month. Gibula has over 30+ years aquarium experience, has worked at the facility since Oct. 2019, and will support staff during the search for a permanent leader.  WXXV 25

  • WXXV’s Megan Fayard revisits the early 1900s in a Hometown History feature that details the Great Southern Hotel—once a famed resort in Gulfport—in an exploration of a changing Mississippi Coast.  WXXV 25

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has issued water contact advisories for four Gulf Coast beaches, including Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian beaches, while advisories remain at Long Beach and Biloxi East Central Beach (Station 12B); swimmers should avoid water contact after heavy rain until bacteria levels become safe.  Gazebo Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A military exercise called Sentry South 26-2 began Friday at south Mississippi bases, with over a thousand active duty, National Guard and Reserve Forces taking part at the Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center and Camp Shelby. Residents might hear more aircraft and helicopter noise until March 6.  WXXV 25
  • Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport warns local residents about scam calls that impersonate its official number and promise free airline tickets. Officials advise hanging up immediately and not sharing personal or financial information (authorities are investigating the issue).  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi 4th Congressional District Representative Mike Ezell received the inaugural Main Street Policy Impact Award last Friday in Washington, D.C.—recognizing his push for economic growth in business districts from Pascagoula to Gulfport.  Gazebo Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fur Baby’s Veterinary Hospital is hosting a vaccine fundraiser Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to support Rhett, a five-year-old boy battling DIPG (a rare cancer) by raising funds for his family’s medical expenses; vaccine bundles cost $70 for three vaccines.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Mississippi fastpitch softball standouts were named to the 2026 MAC Rising Star and Junior All-Star teams — selected athletes from local schools such as Harrison Central, West Harrison, and Ocean Springs will represent the region later this year.  WXXV 25
  • OLA Crescents of Our Lady Academy won their first basketball division title after beating the Lady Irish 58-46 last Friday. They advance to a home playoff game as coach Bill Henley praised the team for reaching a new milestone.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Saint Stanislaus College Prep won a Division 8-3A title with a 70-31 win over Presbyterian Christian last Friday and outscored Hazlehurst on Tuesday to secure playoff advancement. The team will face St. Andrew’s Episcopal on Saturday at Brother Peter Memorial Gymnasium with tip-off at 6 p.m.  Gazebo Gazette
