- ➤ South Mississippians are preparing for Lent as many churches will hold Ash Wednesday masses tomorrow to distribute ashes and mark the start of a 40-day season. The services serve as a sign of repentance and reflection on mortality. WXXV 25
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi Aquarium has set up a donation bin for Mardi Gras beads (located at its plaza by the ticketing entrance) in Gulfport. Beads can be recycled every day through March 2 to protect wildlife and promote sustainability. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Gulf Coast Eco Tour 2026 season begins March 1 as Captain Jenny Johnston & Shawntel May join to guide locals on a scenic tour along the coast. WXXV 25
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Keesler Federal Park in Biloxi is nominated for a USA Today Reader’s Choice Award for Best Minor League Ballpark. Voting began Monday and will close on March 16 while the top ten winners will be announced on March 26. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Biloxi boys soccer team advanced to its first-ever state championship with a 3-2 win over Ocean Springs in the 7A South State match. WXXV 25
- ➤ The St. Patrick Fighting Irish boys soccer team clinched a 3-1 overtime win—earning a State Championship spot—and will face St. Andrews on Friday at 7 p.m. WXXV 25
- ➤ St. Patrick girls soccer advanced to its fourth-straight State Championship after defeating Our Lady Academy 2-0 to clinch the South State title in Biloxi. They will compete in the championship game soon. WXXV 25
- ➤ Bay High Tigers — led by Mason Bosarge and Zayonte Acker — won in overtime during a Class 4A championship match against Pass Christian Pirates at Bay High, securing their fourth consecutive state finals berth. WXXV 25
