  • Pass Christian High School launched Hope Week on Monday, Feb. 9 at 5:00 p.m. with Lanterns of Hope at Henderson Point Beach—gathering students, families, and locals for a lantern release that set the stage for a week of kindness and mental health support.  Gazebo Gazette
  • The Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs is hosting a 5K and fun run to benefit Gulf Coast children on Feb. 21 at Fort Maurepas Park in Ocean Springs, starting at 5 p.m. Registration remains open.  WXXV 25
  • Today is day two of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Mississippi when the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety advises homeowners to inspect roofs, upgrade wind-rated garage doors, trim trees and seal gaps to reduce storm damage and speed recovery if damage occurs.  WXXV 25
  • Islamic Relief USA and the Biloxi Islamic Center distributed 336 food boxes on Monday (via drive-thru) to help families facing rising food insecurity in Biloxi.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-nominated artist and American Idol winner Jamal Roberts will perform at the Sound Amphitheater on April 12 (ticket details coming soon), boosting local excitement with his return since winning in 2025.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ingalls Shipbuilding hosted its 16th annual STEM Grant Award Ceremony Friday in Pascagoula — awarding over $95,000 to 22 schools in South Mississippi and Alabama for hands-on projects and tech upgrades. The company will host a two-week summer externship for educators to gain shipbuilding experience.  WXXV 25
  • Dr. Mary S. Graham has been named the recipient of the CASE Chief Executive Leadership Award during the CASE District III Annual Conference in Nashville, making her the third Mississippi education leader honored for expanding student opportunities & building community partnerships.  Gazebo Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gulf Islands National Seashore crews plan a prescribed burn at Davis Bayou before Feb. 22 to support Longleaf Pine Flatwood habitats. The park will check conditions over the next few weeks to set an exact date — officials will update residents when details are confirmed.  WXXV 25
  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Monday that the wood stork is no longer on the endangered species list because its population has recovered; the bird breeds in coastal wetlands (with an estimated 10,000 to 14,000 nesting pairs) from Mississippi to North Carolina.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • The Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds defeated the Oak Grove Warriors 2-1 in round one of the soccer playoffs on Tuesday, with sophomore Drew Anderson scoring both goals and Lily Craig making key saves. The team will host the Biloxi Indians later this week.  WXXV 25
  • St. Patrick Lady Irish beat Clarkdale 5-0 in round two of the playoffs. The team scored early and will play in round three later this week.  WXXV 25
