COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport is offering a February adoption special (Have a Heart) that sponsors full heartworm treatment and waives fees for every dog with heartworm, also giving a goody bag for each new pet.  WXXV 25
  • YMCA leaders began construction on two new pools at the Ocean Springs facility today with a $3.7 million investment; the project replaces an aging indoor pool & adds a larger outdoor pool to serve local swimmers, with work set to finish by year-end.  WXXV 25
  • Girl Scout Cookie season will begin on Feb. 13 as Girl Scouts offer cookies and share a new flavor with Joanna O’Conor in studio.  WXXV 25
  • Biloxi Public Works crews prepared on Friday as residents get ready for the annual Children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade today, which starts at 10 a.m. under the I-110 overpass on Howard Avenue and ends at city hall (In Search of Lost Legends theme).  WXXV 25
  • CASA of South Mississippi will swear in 15 volunteer advocates on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport (each has completed 30 hours of training and will serve children in foster care); the ceremony will be led by Judges Michael Dickinson and Sean Courtney.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Executive director Matt McDonnell will retire from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center on February 28 after 40 years of service, including 11 years in the role.  WXXV 25

  • The Church of the Good Shepard in Long Beach will host the African Children’s Choir free concert on February 18 at 7 p.m., sharing customs, food, and culture while Ugandan Tour Leader Daniel Tamale joins via Zoom (call 228-452-9318 for details).  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MDOT released parade safety tips ahead of the upcoming Fat Tuesday carnival. The guidance advises drivers to watch for pedestrians, avoid drinking and driving, and check parade road closures (details available on the MDOT traffic app).  WXXV 25
