- ➤ Extra Table launched its March of the Mayors donation drive—collecting items from dried beans to peanut butter across six southern counties—and it will end on March 5 with a packing party at Lyman Community Center to prepare the donations. WXXV 25
- ➤ Destiny is this week's pet up for adoption at the Jackson County Animal Shelter, and Adoption Coordinator Maridee Mallette invites interested families to visit and consider giving her a forever home. WXXV 25
- ➤ Harrison County has extended its drive for winter storm victims through Friday. Residents can drop off bottled water, shelf-stable food, baby supplies, propane — and flashlights at the Biloxi and Gulfport courthouses from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. WXXV 25
- ➤ Community Action of South Mississippi is offering free tax preparation for families earning up to $67,500 during tax season at four Coast locations. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is available for those in need. WXXV 25
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pass Christian School District launched its first middle school show choir Ignite, debuting last weekend at Pearl River College (two students earned Best Performer awards). Ignite will compete at Northeast Jones High on Feb. 6 and Oak Grove High on Feb. 27 before ending its season at Biloxi High. Gazebo Gazette
- ➤ The Second Liners Mardi Gras Club will host a parade on Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. with a lineup at 10 a.m. at the Gruich Community Center (Community Fun Fest follows at Doris C. Busch Park). WXXV 25
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Researchers with nonprofit OCEARCH tracked a 12-ft great white shark (1,009-pound) named Ernst as she traveled over 3,200 miles from Nova Scotia to waters off the local coast. Pinged south of Horn Island on Jan. 30 at 5:32 a.m., she could still be in the area as she heads toward Louisiana. SuperTalk Mississippi Media
