COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Biloxi Children’s Walking Parade will start this Saturday at 10 a.m. along Howard Avenue and finish near city hall. Children 12 and under will join by foot, bike, skates, strollers & wagons as they celebrate a pop art theme inspired by local Coast artists Walter Anderson, George Ohr and Dusti Bonge.  WXXV 25
  • Popp’s Ferry Bridge will have intermittent lane closures today & crews will perform maintenance on the bridge decking from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Walter Anderson Museum of Art is offering science and art field trips for students that bring learning beyond the classroom — museum representatives Katy Simmons-Carroll and Elaine Dent explained the program, with details available on the museum website.  WXXV 25
  • On Monday, Jan. 26, Master Naturalist Alexis Foust led a community discussion on coastal ecology at the Margaret Sherry Library, where the talk (Walking the Wetlands) showed residents how to observe native plants and begin nature journaling.  Gazebo Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi State scientist Holley Muraco analyzed drone footage from fall 2024 at Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve that captured a mating herd of manatees, showing coastal habitats support reproduction. She will soon launch a project with the reserve to locate thermal refuges + study waters near power plants.  Gazebo Gazette
  • Woodside Wildlife Rescue in Pass Christian released Bill the Bald Eagle on Monday after months of care for the bird that fell sick in the wild. The nonprofit, which focuses on injured & orphaned wildlife, returned the eagle to its natural habitat along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  WXXV 25
