  • South Mississippi mayors & Extra Table leaders kicked off the annual March of the Mayors campaign with a Friday morning event at the Lord is my Help food pantry in Ocean Springs, and officials said they will release more details on item collections soon.  WXXV 25
  • Thomas, a Korean War veteran from Pass Christian, was honored with a certificate from Commander Dew for his work as a Tracking Radar Operator on the M51 Skysweeper (an early Cold War anti-aircraft system).  Gazebo Gazette
  • Tina Seymour from Seymour Law Firm advises Mardi Gras parade participants in Biloxi to plan ahead by designating a sober friend and staying together before, during and after festivities (to help avoid accidents).  Gazebo Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Due to winter weather warnings, the Krewe of Waggus has postponed its 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Pet Pawrade to Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Avenue Pavilion in Pass Christian, with proceeds benefiting Animal A.I.D of MS and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic School.  Gazebo Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lizana Elementary Journey students delivered pet supplies to the Humane Society of South Mississippi this week — marking five years of school-led drive donations. They toured animal care areas and enjoyed time with puppies and kittens.  WXXV 25

  • On January 27, Harrison County School District named Chris Fortenberry head football coach for Harrison Central Red Rebels. Fortenberry brings 24 years of coaching experience — including a state championship with Columbia High— and will coach in the upcoming Bernard Blackwell Classic North/South All-Star Game in Gulfport.  Gazebo Gazette
