  • The Krewe of Barkloxi will host its 10th annual pawrade at Point Cadet Pavilion in Biloxi on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m.  WXXV 25

  • Billy Howard Sr., founder of Howard Industries, died at 99 on Jan. 28; he built a billion-dollar company that supported local education and athletics.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art announced it was awarded a $20,000 America250 Legacy Grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council to restore and update the Pleasant Reed House—Biloxi’s historic home that honors African American craftsmanship. Funding aims to preserve Mississippi stories as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.  WXXV 25

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Goodwill of South Mississippi launched Goodreads at Bel-Aire and Crossroads Elementary in Gulfport with Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley & Goodwill's mascot Sunny the Smiling G reading to students who each took home a book. The program will expand and volunteers are needed.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce will accept online applications from Feb. 1 through Feb. 15 for landowners in all 82 counties to request smart traps for wild hog control — eligible applicants must meet acreage and damage criteria and will receive necessary training.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ocean Springs girls soccer beat East Central 2-1 in a hot contest that saw the Greyhounds clinch the Class 7A Region 4 district title earlier this week while the Hornets secured the Class 5A Region 4 title.  WXXV 25
  • Seattle Seahawks left tackle Charles Cross from Laurel will play his biggest game in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. CT at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara as he and other Mississippi players prepare to compete against the Patriots.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College baseball recorded a 15-1 win over Florida Post-Grad on Thursday in Perkinston (a strong show on opening day).  WXXV 25
