COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Warming shelters have provided essential relief from cold weather in Gulfport since late last week. The Salvation Army Center of Hope (one of two in Harrison County) remains open as cold conditions continue through the week.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tomorrow, the Gulf Coast Orchid Society will host its 46th annual Orchid Show at the Gautier Convention Center with events on Friday, Jan. 30, Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1.  WXXV 25
  • Pass Christian Fire Inspector LT/PIO Jeff Klemmer will see his feature film "The Gift" stream on Apple TV in March after a red carpet premiere in Hollywood and a limited release in other cities. Klemmer said he and his wife love living in Pass Christian.  Gazebo Gazette

  • The Mississippi House passed a bill on Wednesday that will require health insurers to cover biomarker testing for cancer care. The bill, known as Jill's Law (in honor of Rep. Casey Eure’s late wife), now heads to the Senate and could soon be signed by Gov. Reeves.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Baylor is the featured pet of the week at the Humane Society of South Mississippi, seeking a forever home. The society hosts its biweekly adoption event (every other Wednesday) to help match pets with caring families.  WXXV 25

  • Resurrection Catholic basketball player Tyrese Ricardo was named WXXV Student Athlete of the Week after overcoming a move from another country and a season-ending injury last year — he now leads in Pascagoula.  WXXV 25
  • St. Patrick’s junior Alex Patino scored 45 points (a career-best) to lead the Lady Irish to a 72-54 upset win over Our Lady Academy Tuesday.  WXXV 25
  • MGCCC baseball today begins its 2026 campaign in Perkinston with an opening game against Florida Post Grad as sports director Ansley Brent previews the Bulldogs' lineup for the season.  WXXV 25
  • Harrison Central High School in Gulfport hired former Columbia defensive coordinator Chris Fortenberry as its head football coach. Fortenberry, who spent 15 years in the role after helping the Wildcats win a title in 2025, replaces Nekemia Rich.  WXXV 25
