  • Knights of Columbus Council 4472 from Holy Family Parish received the Star Council Award on behalf of Grand Knight Christopher Smythe. The council, based in Pass Christian, also excelled in community programs such as Toys for Tots and emergency hurricane relief (highlighting its commitment to local support).  Gazebo Gazette
  • South Mississippi roads are dry today as windy conditions overnight dried up water from Sunday's rain + easing travel for drivers. Some nearby cities used extra caution on bridges and overpasses on Sunday.  WXXV 25

CULTURE NEWS

  • Moss Point native Daniel Stallworth, an elementary music teacher, impressed the American Idol panel on Monday night with his piano-backed rendition of Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin' + advanced to Hollywood Week while 15-year-old Tate Emmons from Lake performed his guitar version of 'Hard Fought Hallelujah' but did not move forward.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local fire officials advise residents to use heaters (with care) as cold weather grips the Mississippi Gulf Coast this week. They remind everyone to take extra precautions to prevent fire hazards.  WXXV 25
  • On Jan. 23, Maternal Health Awareness Day showed that 21 to 23.5 percent of local mothers experienced postpartum depression versus 13 percent nationally, and officials urged new moms to get help if they show warning signs (resources are available via hotline and state app).  WXXV 25

  • The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced that due to Winter Storm Fern, the soccer season for all classifications will be pushed back by a week, with the regular season now ending Feb. 5 and state finals scheduled for Feb. 20 & 21.
