COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Jan. 17, The Sanctuary hosted the Tunnel to Towers fundraiser that brought together law enforcement, firefighters, veterans and families for a day of music, fun and auctions. Donors, including a $1,000 gift from Treasure Bay Casino, supported programs that offer mortgage-free homes to first responders and military families. Gazebo Gazette
- ➤ Biloxi Main Street received a $50,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Fund to boost the next phase of the HowHop Creative District Forward. The funds will support new recreation amenities (basketball courts, skateboarding, and disc golf) expected to attract families, visitors and residents downtown. WXXV 25
- ➤ Buddy Sports is a nonprofit that offers free sports and arts for persons with special needs along the Gulf Coast. Founded in 2010 by Mike Crawford (it grew from 20 to 350 families), the program uses volunteers to host events that build friendship and exercise. WXXV 25
- ➤ City of Moss Point has rescheduled Community Volunteer Day with Biloxi Shuckers to Saturday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gautier Street Ballpark (featuring baseball games and giveaways, a photo opportunity at 11 a.m., and a coach and volunteer interest meeting with onsite registration at 12 p.m.). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ South Mississippi institutions will receive grant money from the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund to support 20 local projects that boost outdoor conservation and recreation. Projects include connectivity improvements and wetland restoration in Ocean Springs along with a new trail in Diamondhead. WXXV 25

- ➤ Biloxi High School promoted Eric Collier from defensive coordinator to head football coach on Wednesday. The longtime coach briefly took a head coaching role at George County High School in February 2025 — he returned three weeks later and helped guide his team to consecutive MHSAA playoffs. - ➤ The MLB-backed HBCU Power Series will take place at Trustmark Park Feb. 13-15 and feature Mississippi HBCUs Alcorn State and Jackson State along with four other teams in nine-inning games each day.
