- ➤ The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of Jack and Jill of America is hosting a blood drive on Monday, Jan. 19 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Edgewater Mall to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi-Ocean Springs is hosting its annual prom closet today at the St. Martin location of In the Zone on Tucker Road. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers affordable formal wear for local middle and high schoolers. WXXV 25
- ➤ National Pothole Day spotlights pothole threats to tires and wheels in South Mississippi. Performance Tire and Wheel in Gulfport reported that up to 60 percent of repairs involve pothole damage — experts advise drivers to slow down and follow routine upkeep. WXXV 25

- ➤ Coastwide MLK celebration events in Biloxi feature a mental health luncheon at St. Paul today at noon & an MLK parade on Howard Avenue at 11 a.m. Monday, with other events including a gospel service & a battle of the bands at Point Cadet Plaza. WXXV 25
- ➤ Biloxi’s nearly 100-year-old Saenger Theater (renovated inside and out since 2018) is nearing reopening as mayor FoFo Gilich said final work is almost done. The refurbished venue will soon welcome community events in downtown Biloxi. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Institute for Marine Mammals Studies seeks interns for Spring 2026 in research, animal care, and stranding at its Gulfport facility (internships are available year-round and high school seniors can apply). WXXV 25
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A 1,000-pound Great White Shark was spotted near Mississippi waters this past weekend, and a shark expert at the Mississippi Aquarium said the species plays an important role in balancing offshore ecosystems. WXXV 25
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith sent a letter to NOAA asking for more checks on Mexican vessels illegally harvesting red snapper in U.S. waters, which they say could hurt gulf fishermen plus fuel criminal networks linked to fish smuggling. The lawmakers want to protect local catches and preserve gulf fish stocks. WXXV 25
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Back Bay Mission and Memorial Health System hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony in Biloxi to launch a new partnership that will bring resident doctors to provide care for unsheltered guests & train future physicians in community-based care. The initiative expands access to healthcare for those facing barriers. WXXV 25
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ St. Patrick Catholic High School held Senior Night today to honor its 22 soccer seniors — 11 boys and 11 girls — who will graduate this school year. The girls have won three state titles while the boys are one win from a district title as they prepare for playoffs. WXXV 25
- ➤ Eleven junior athletes will play in the North vs South All-Star Basketball Game starting March 20. The boys will compete first, and the girls (from Biloxi, Picayune, and Harrison Central) will follow on March 21. WXXV 25
- ➤ Four Coast high school basketball players were named Mississippi All-Stars and will play on March 14 at Mississippi College, featuring top local talent from Pascagoula, Gulfport, Pass Christian and Rock-A-Chaw (including Blake Nettles, Morris Robertson Jr., Landon Hall and an SSC center). - ➤ Christian Collegiate Academy senior Tahj Hill became the first player to reach 1,000 career points on Friday night against Columbia Academy—he hit a three-pointer one minute in and the game paused for him to be honored with a basketball and canvas. The Bulldogs will build on this milestone as they aim for postseason play. WXXV 25
- ➤ Eighth grader Kenzi Edwards scored two goals Tuesday night in Biloxi High School's varsity district soccer game against Ocean Springs. WXXV 25
