EDUCATION NEWS

  • Homeschool courses at the Gulf Coast Kroc Center resumed Monday in Biloxi. A new course was added to support students in home education.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held a grant check presentation Tuesday morning with Second Chance Mississippi to boost adult education in Gautier+ The funding will support workforce training programs and help local adults earn high school equivalency and career certificates.  WXXV 25
  • William Crosby Parker II and Nial Chen, coastal high school seniors, were selected for the Senate Youth Program; they will join state senators in Washington in March and each receive a $10,000 college scholarship + support for continued studies.  WXXV 25

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coast Transit Authority announced that on Jan. 19 (MLK Jr. Day), fixed bus routes will operate on a Sunday time schedule while regular service resumes Jan. 20; the CTA office closes Friday at 3 p.m. and reopens Jan. 20 at 8 a.m.  WXXV 25
  • Mississippi Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson explained today his drive to boost healthy eating through updated seafood labeling law — part of an effort aligning with HHS Secretary RFK Jr.'s push for nutritious food over sugary drinks and snacks.  WXXV 25

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Vancleave baseball stars earned their state championship ring in 2024 and are moving to the next level — right-handed pitcher Dane McElroy will join Millsaps College while first baseman Conner Mitchell and manager Preston Morgan enroll at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Jackson County during their senior season.  WXXV 25
  • After returning from the Navy All-American Game, d’Iberville linebacker Caleb Triplett recounted his senior season where he recorded 56 tackles and earned MVP at the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game — he will join the Southern Miss Football program to further his rising career.  WXXV 25
  • Three Harrison Central (Red Rebel) volleyball players signed with Pearl River Wildcats, paving the way for their college careers. The student athletes finalized their agreements recently and will join the team for upcoming practices.  WXXV 25
