COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Biloxi city officials installed new lights at the popular DIY skatepark (now open after dark) to boost safe skating for local riders. The improvement comes as the community calls for more permanent upgrades. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Mississippi Coast Coliseum will host a collectible trade show on Jan. 17 from 10 AM to 5 PM with 250 vendor tables selling sports cards, memorabilia, comics, video games and retro arcade cabinets. A signing session — with Trevor McDonald from 12 PM to 1 PM will highlight the event. WXXV 25
- ➤ Wreaths for Biloxi National Cemetery invites volunteers to help remove holiday wreaths (cleanup begins at 8 a.m. today and continues until all are collected) at the cemetery. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Junior Auxiliary of Ocean Springs-Biloxi will host a prom closet on January 17 at In the Zone (7312 Tucker Road, Ocean Springs). Students shop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with everyone else invited from 12 p.m. to choose dresses, shoes, and accessories for $15 and under. WXXV 25
- ➤ The Salvation Army’s Frosty Kroc race takes place today at 8:30 a.m. in Biloxi with options for a one-mile fun run, 5K and 10K that wind through East Biloxi and over the Biloxi Ocean Springs Bridge. WXXV 25
- ➤ Amtrak’s Mardi Gras train provides twice-daily service connecting New Orleans and Mobile with stops along the Mississippi Coast — offering riders an easier way to reach parades during the festive season. WXXV 25
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and the Mississippi State Department of Health reported over 300 trafficking victims in 2024; the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence will launch outreach on Jan. 11 to support affected individuals. WXXV 25
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Students at St. James Catholic School in Gulfport celebrated 2nd grader Asher Bonura becoming cancer-free after his stage four battle, with peers showing support by wearing t-shirts reading (Asher’s Army) on Thursday. Asher looked forward to returning to sports and reconnecting with friends. WXXV 25

- ➤ The Biloxi Indians defeated Harrison Central 73-35 in Gulfport during their fifth district test, improving to 12-5 overall — 4-2 in district play. WXXV 25
- ➤ D'Iberville linebacker Caleb Triplett will announce his college commitment at the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio today + top recruits will compete on NBC + peacock. WXXV 25
- ➤ Biloxi Girls Basketball defeated Harrison Central 36-27 Friday night, boosting their record to 17-1 while remaining unbeaten in district play, and the game showcased prospects Zaniya Johnson and Saniyah Murray as college scouts attended at the local gym. WXXV 25
